Fostering is usually a temporary way of offering children and youth a home until they can return to their birth families. Long term placements, however, last for greater periods of time and provide some permanence for a child who cannot return home.
When a child cannot return to their birth family, a decision must be made about the permanent plans for their security and welfare. For some children and youth, such as those who are older or in regular contact with their birth family, long term foster care may be more suitable than adoption.
Children and young people in long term foster care continue to be a part of their own family, even if they have only a limited amount of contact with them. We need long term foster parents who can offer care for these children until they reach adulthood and are ready to live independently.
If you want more information about long term placements or if you think you could offer Long term foster care, contact your local office today.
